Prelude and Fugue

Prelude and Fugue was written for Zubin Kanga, who premiered the work on 18 November 2011, alongside the music of six other composers associated with Sydney Grammar School.

The prelude pits angular triads against fiendish runs up and down the keyboard, quickly evolving into a grotesque hybrid of two competing musical ideas. But as quickly as the prelude began, it is over, and these competing musical ideas manage to come together as the subject and countersubject of a hushed fugue.
